Their Legacy, Our Destiny (journal entry 6-25-12)

2 Timothy 1:5-7
when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

I'll never forget how my mom and grandparents were always praying for our families. I know that I am a direct beneficiary of their prayers. I am reminded that prayers don't ever die but it lasts for generations. My great grandfather was a missionary to Papua, New Guinea and was killed by the natives for his faith. My grandfather followed suit and became a missionary himself and invested his life to the same people who killed his dad. Years later when I was born in American Samoa, he carried me and prayed a prophetic prayer that set the course for my life. My great grandfather and grandfather's legacy became my destiny - to preach the Word of God fearlessly with the compassion of Christ.

Today the Lord is stirring up the gift of God in me that my fathers' have imparted in to me through their obedience to serve the Lord in their generation. I'm reminded that my destiny is to impact the lives of people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that according to Hebrews 12:1 that there is great cloud of witnesses that are cheering us on as we run this race of faith.  I know my forefathers and my parents are a part of that cloud of witness cheering me on today.

Thank you Lord for reminding me today through your word that I'm not alone. Heroes of our faith are cheering us on.  Today I choose live boldly for you. Today I ask you to continue to enlarge my heart to love your people. Give me your wisdom to reach them, to disciple them and to send them out to become dispensers of your love to their communities.  I love you my God. Thank you for this insight today in your word.
